Boeing CEO Among Industry Bosses to Convene for Certification Reform Talks
Oct. 15, 2026 - Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, RTX CEO Christopher Calio, and GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp met with U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on October 15, 2026, to discuss ways to streamline aircraft, parts, and component certification. The FAA and Department of Transportation aim to modernize the process while maintaining aviation safety and U.S. aerospace competitiveness. Boeing has faced years of certification delays following the 737 MAX crashes and other safety incidents, with the 737 MAX 7 certified in August 2026 and the 737 MAX 10 still awaiting certification after a software issue delayed the process. Pentagon Needs $50B for Mass Drone Production, Hegseth Says
Oct. 14, 2026 - The Pentagon is seeking approximately $50 billion in one-time reconciliation funding to accelerate the development and mass production of autonomous weapons and robotic systems, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth aiming to expand stockpiles from thousands to millions of units. Separately, the fiscal 2027 budget includes $53.6 billion for the Drone Dominance initiative, while the Army’s existing $1 billion program aims to procure approximately 340,000 small drones over two years. Hegseth and Army leaders also want to reduce bureaucratic barriers, expand testing access, and encourage newer defense companies to compete alongside established contractors to rapidly field lower-cost autonomous systems. German Government in Talks to Buy 50% of KNDS, Source Says
Oct. 14, 2026 - The German government is in talks to acquire a 50% stake in KNDS, the Franco-German tank manufacturer, from its German owner families. Discussions have temporarily put plans for a KNDS initial public offering (IPO) on hold. (Reuters)
Raytheon Secures 2 Pentagon Contracts Worth $30.7B Combined
Oct. 13, 2026 - RTX subsidiary Raytheon received two multiyear Department of Defense contracts totaling up to $30.7 billion to increase production of SM-6 interceptors for the U.S. Navy and SM-3 Block IB interceptors for the Missile Defense Agency, with terms of more than five years and options to extend to seven. The agreements build on earlier initiatives to expand annual production of SM-6 missiles to more than 500, Tomahawk cruise missiles to more than 1,000, and AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to at least 1,900. The contracts support the Pentagon’s broader effort to replenish munitions stockpiles and accelerate weapons manufacturing through expanded workforces, automation, and changes to defense contracting requirements. Army Re-evaluating Munitions Procurement Goals as Iran War Continues
Oct. 13, 2026 - The U.S. Army is prioritizing increased annual production of Patriot air defense interceptors, particularly PAC-3 MSE missiles, with long-term production goals of at least 2,000 and discussions about expanding total missile output to 4,000–8,000 across different capabilities. The Army is also considering purchasing PAC-2 GEM-T interceptors, which are already in production, to increase available missile supplies while maintaining a mix of capabilities at sustainable costs. However, the scale of these procurement plans will depend on congressional funding, which could force the Army to reprioritize programs based on budget availability. (Defense One)
